Throughout the 1920s and 1930s Canada asserted its independence from Britain, eager to prove itself on the world stage. This cartoon, published in The Montreal Daily Star in 1931, shows Canada as a small figure in comparison to the much larger man depicting Great Britain; Canada needs to stand on two large boxes which read "EQUAL STATUS" in order to be "Just as Big as Daddy," as the cartoon is captioned.
